To expedite the recovery efforts following the recent natural disaster in Himachal Pradesh, the state government has earmarked ₹2.1 crore from MLA local area development funds. In the ongoing financial year, a total budget provision of ₹144.01 crore has been allocated, with ₹74.84 crore already disbursed to districts in two phases until October 2023.
The revision in guidelines, prompted by the extensive damage caused by heavy rains, now allows for the repair of retaining and breast walls, along with the channelization of rivulets and seasonal nullahs within the scheme. This initiative extends beyond immediate relief, encompassing a range of projects such as building classrooms, ayurvedic dispensaries, veterinary dispensaries, health sub-centers, and general community structures at the grassroots level.
Furthermore, the scheme supports the construction of link roads, installation of hand pumps, and various other essential works. Spanning from small bridges and culverts for rural roads to footbridges, concrete or black-top roads in rural areas, and improvements to drinking water schemes, the scope has been broadened to address diverse needs.
In addition, the scheme now includes projects like local irrigation schemes, school and public area toilets, and bathrooms at locations such as bus stands. The electrification of houses in remote rural areas, repairs to school buildings, and the creation of sports grounds are also encompassed by this revamped initiative. The commitment to accelerating relief efforts is evident in these strategic amendments, fostering comprehensive development in the affected regions.
